Ballots and Bucks: Democracy for Sale

From the birth of the United States, activists have suffered and died to protect the right to vote: Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Carrie Chapman Catt, Inez Milholland, Medgar Evers, Rev. George Lee, James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner, and many more. They all understood that suffrage was about liberty, dignity, and respect. With such sacrifice, how can we let the vote be stolen from us by corporate interests? How can we challenge corporate personhood and cynical attempts by organizations like the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) to deny the vote to millions while selling democracy to millionaires? Hugh Taft-Morales explores the ethical imperative to save democracy.
